The process
The transformation of clay into a beautiful and unique product happens by our skilled potters, artisans and painters, some of whom have been with us for over two decades.
We use high-quality ingredients and develop our own glazes, to design and create our products, which are unique to us. We use a mix of traditional and modern tools and equipment from the
old-fashioned potter’s wheel to slip-casting and other presses, to achieve the best results in design and production of the products.
Our principles of timeless design along with an emphasis on quality, help us create products that last a lifetime.
We blend together several of our locally sourced clay bodies in a ball mill for 48 hours. Once the slip is ready, it goes in the press to remove the excess water. The clay is now ready to use!
The clay is moulded, pressed and
shaped into the vessel it’s going to be using a mix of traditional and modern tools. New shapes are developed on the thrower’s wheel or slab roller.
The piece has to be bone dry before it can be fired. This can take a couple of days depending on the weather.
Once the piece is completely dry, it is strong enough to be dipped in the glaze. We make our glazes in small batches on site, using recipes we’ve perfected over years of trial and error.
Each piece is glazed and painted by hand, allowing for slight variations and idiosyncrasies that make our pottery truly unique. Some of our pieces are also hand-painted by our painters with a lot of detailing and love.
We use a shuttle kiln, operating
at 1150 degrees Celsius, to fire the glazed pieces. After careful inspection, the white pieces are painstakingly hand painted.
Once painted, the pieces are gloss fired in an electric furnace where the real magic happens. This transforms the piece into a functional vessel. The unpredictability of the process creates variations in the hue and shape that renders as the beauty of a handmade piece.
Each piece is thoroughly checked to ensure it meets our strict quality standards
Once cleared, it is lovingly packed and shipped to your home!
